CGI

Kia Ora!

Vandaag valt er niet echt iets spannends te vermelden dus heb ik maar bedacht van eens iets anders te doen. Voor ik weer opmerkingen krijg dat ik hier niets anders doe dan plezier maken even anticiperen en meteen die geruchten met de grond gelijk maken :-) We krijgen hier minstens 1 schrijfopdracht per week en degene die ik vorige week gemaakt heb over CGI (Computer Generated Images) was zo goed bevonden dat hij luidop voorgelezen is in de les als een excellent voorbeeld van hoe het zou moeten. Vermits ik jullie hiervan niet zou willen onthouden heb ik hem dan maar direct hieronder bijgevoegd. Enjoy!

The use of computer animated features is becoming more and more popular with movie producers. For the latter it opens a whole new spectrum of possibilities. They can create their own landscapes as they did in “Lord of the rings”, animals like the dinosaurs in “Jurassic Park” or other creatures like the ones that terrorize the screen in “Star Wars”. Furthermore they can give a scene the exquisite detail it needed, the finishing touch, which will make it movie history. The potential is endless and the only limit is imagination.

With regard to this topic I would like to discuss one particular motion picture which is “Eragon”. It’s a story about a young farm boy – named Eragon – who has to transform into a brave warrior in order to save life as he knows it. By his side for this immense, life changing journey is the dragon Saphira. The latter plays a crucial role in the picture and is vital for the story. As dragons are purely mythological creatures CGI was indispensable in order to bring Saphira alive on the silver screen. The result is a marvellous motion picture which meant the beginning of a whole new trilogy in movie history.

The current development in special effects, and CGI as a wider topic, allows movie developers to start turning a whole new selection of books into motion pictures. Mythical creatures, previously unimaginable landscapes or even explosions and car chases are no longer an excuse not to adapt a book to the screen. There are no longer limits and, personally, I think that that is a ground-breaking evolution that we should all applaud.

The ongoing change in CGI is something that potentially can make the movie experience even more extraordinary. Possibilities are limitless and if they are used properly, amazing results can be achieved. As I said before, today – credit to CGI – the only limit is imagination!

Voila, na deze schrijfopdracht is het alweer tijd om te gaan :-) Toch nog even melden dat mijn notificatiemailtjes blijkbaar niet meer werken. Geen idee waarom, want hij geeft aan dat alles normaal verloopt, maar blijkbaar is dat toch niet helemaal waar. Anyways, ik verzin wel iets een van dees :-)
